Dental Emergencies We Treat

•       Severe toothache or dental abscess — pain, swelling or a pimple on the gum near a tooth

•       Chipped, cracked or broken tooth — especially if causing pain or a sharp edge

•       Knocked-out tooth (avulsed tooth) — time is critical. See first aid steps below.

•       Lost or broken crown, bridge or veneer

•       Lost or broken filling — particularly if the tooth is sensitive or painful

•       Swelling around a tooth, gum or jaw

•       Object stuck between teeth that cannot be removed

•       Broken or lost denture or appliance

Emergency First Aid — Before You Reach Us

Knocked-Out Tooth

•       Handle the tooth by the crown (the white part) — do not touch the root

•       If dirty, rinse gently with milk or saline — do not scrub

•       If possible, reinsert the tooth into the socket and hold in place, or keep it in milk or between your cheek and gum to keep it moist

•       Call Eve Dental immediately on 02 9808 5252 — reimplantation is most successful within 30–60 minutes

Toothache

•       Rinse with warm salt water

•       Take over-the-counter pain relief as directed on the packaging

•       Do not place aspirin directly against the gum — this can cause chemical burns

•       Call us to arrange same-day assessment

Broken Tooth

•       Rinse your mouth with warm water

•       Apply a cold compress to reduce swelling if present

•       Save any fragments you can find and bring them to your appointment

•       Call us immediately — a broken tooth can expose the nerve and worsen quickly without treatment

Lost Crown or Filling

•       Dental cement (available from pharmacies) can be used as a temporary measure to cover the tooth

•       Avoid chewing on the affected side

•       Call us to arrange an appointment as soon as possible

Emergency Dentistry — Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What should I do if I knock out a tooth?

A: Act immediately — pick up the tooth by the crown (not the root), rinse it gently with milk if dirty, and either reinsert it into the socket or keep it in milk while you call Eve Dental on 02 9808 5252. The sooner we see you, the greater the chance of successful reimplantation.

Q: Is a toothache a dental emergency?

A: A severe, persistent toothache — particularly one accompanied by swelling, fever or a bad taste — is a dental emergency and should be assessed promptly. It may indicate an abscess or infection that can spread if untreated. Call us on 02 9808 5252 for same-day assessment.

Q: Do you charge more for emergency appointments?

A: Emergency appointments are billed at our standard consultation rates. We will always provide a clear estimate before beginning any treatment. We can also discuss payment plan options if needed.

Q: What if my emergency happens after hours?

A: If you are in severe pain or distress after hours and cannot wait until we open, please visit your nearest hospital emergency department. For dental pain that can wait until morning, leave us a message and we will call you back as soon as we open to arrange a priority appointment.

Q: How do I prevent dental emergencies?

A: Regular check-ups catch problems — like cracked fillings, early decay or gum disease — before they become emergencies. We also recommend custom-fitted mouthguards for patients who play contact sports. Ask us at your next visit.

If you are experiencing facial swelling affecting your breathing, difficulty swallowing, or a high fever alongside dental pain, call 000 or go to your nearest hospital emergency department immediately.
