Dr Claire King
Dentist - BDS (Otago) Bachelor of Dental Surgery; GDPysch (UNSW) Graduate Diploma of Psychology
Dr Claire came to dentistry through a genuine desire to care for people in practical, meaningful ways — and her career has been shaped by that motivation ever since. She holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Otago, New Zealand (2007), and has continued to invest in her professional growth, completing a Graduate Diploma of Psychology at UNSW in 2024. That combination of dental expertise and psychological training gives Dr Claire a uniquely compassionate lens through which she approaches every patient interaction.
Dr Claire's clinical interests span all areas of dentistry, with particular passion for restorative, paediatric, and geriatric care. She believes that truly great dental care means treating the whole person, not just the problem in front of her — a philosophy she sums up simply as providing care holistically. For Dr Claire, the most satisfying part of her day is knowing she has genuinely and effectively addressed what her patient came in needing.
Her commitment to service extends well beyond the walls of the clinic. In 2010 and 2011, Dr Claire volunteered aboard the Africa Mercy Ship — the world's largest non-governmental hospital ship — providing dental care to some of the world's most underresourced communities in Togo and Sierra Leone. In regions where trained dentists are extraordinarily scarce, she worked alongside an international team to treat patients facing serious and complex dental conditions, from heavily broken-down teeth requiring surgical extraction to rare oral pathologies she had never encountered before. In a single week, the dental team needed to extract over a thousand teeth — demanding, physically challenging work carried out with care and focus for each individual. Reflecting on the experience, Dr Claire has described discovering a profound new level of fulfilment in her work: one that no difficult environment could diminish. These two stints of humanitarian service have deeply shaped the empathy, resilience, and clinical confidence she brings to her patients every day.
She is also currently undertaking training in clear aligner therapy, reflecting Dr Claire's ongoing commitment to expanding her skills for the benefit of her patients. Dr Claire has lived in Maroubra for over six years and loves everything the area offers — the proximity to the ocean, the outdoor lifestyle, and the warmth of the local community. When she is not at the clinic, she is most likely driving her kids to their next activity (and then the one after that). Above all, Dr Claire wants every new patient — especially those feeling anxious — to know one thing before they walk through the door: you are always in full control of what happens during your treatment.
Dr Josephine Lam
Dentist - BDSc (Hons) (University of Queensland) Bachelor of Dental Science
Dr Josephine's love for dentistry has a surprisingly memorable origin story. At just four years old, she tumbled off a jumping castle and lost her first tooth. Rather than being frightened by the dental chair, the lights, and the masks, she found herself captivated — and in that moment, a seed was planted for her future. She went on to graduate with First Class Honours in a Bachelor of Dental Science from the University of Queensland, and has since built a career dedicated to helping patients feel happier and healthier every time they leave her chair.
Dr Josephine's clinical focus is restorative and aesthetic dentistry, and she holds a deep conviction that every tooth is worth fighting for. No matter how little remains of a tooth, she will explore every possible option to preserve and restore it, prolonging its life for as long as possible. Her philosophy goes beyond the mouth — she believes that teeth are like chapters in a book, revealing aspects of our past, present, and future lives, and that they cannot be treated in isolation from the rest of the body they are so deeply connected to.
Born and raised in Ryde, Dr Josephine has a genuine love for the multi-generational, family-oriented community she has always called home. She is a familiar and trusted face in the neighbourhood, and that sense of belonging is something she brings into the clinic every day. Away from the clinic, Dr Josephine is a self-confessed bookworm — beach, couch, or park bench, any spot will do. She also has a hidden talent for crochet and embroidery, proving that steady hands serve her well both in and out of the surgery.
To any patient feeling nervous about their first visit, Dr Josephine offers this reassurance: "I'm like a bug — probably more scared of you than you are of me." On a more serious note, she always takes the time to explain what is happening and why, because she believes that once a patient understands the situation and the steps to resolve it, everything becomes far more manageable.
